        • Affordable

        • Easy to fill fuel

        • Clipping bag doesn't seal well

This Lawn boy is super at fast mowing. It's a flexible, affordable, and reliable walk-behind mower. It comes with a variety of features that make mowing easy.

The electric starter feature requires no pulling a recoil cord. All you need to do is to turn the key and start mowing.

With the rear-wheel-drive self-propelled system, you can mow more effectively because it provides plenty of traction for hilly terrain.

Besides, the 2-Point Height-of-Cut System allows you to adjust two wheels simultaneously. That's quite helpful when you need to cut grass of different lengths.

This Lawn Boy mower features the patented engineered Tri-Cut System provides excellent mulching capacity.

The Lawn Boy's larger bag is super easy to fill. It holds more to reduce the time you need to empty the bag.

Did I forget about the engine?

The commercial-grade Kohler XTX engine renders tough performance. It definitely cuts fast and doesn't strain my back.

        Pros
        • Effortless push-button starting

        • Easy to turn with 360 wheel

        • High-performance engine

        • No oil change needed

        Cons
        • Hard to pivot in slopes

        • Flimsy discharge chute

Ok, so you have a small yard and don't need something too exotic?

Here I have a model that is both decent for your compact garden as well as the wallet.

I saw this mower for the first time at my neighbor's backyard, and I realized that I had never seen a three-wheeled mower before. So, I decided to have one for myself.

One of the greatest benefits of this machine is the maneuverability that you don't have to pick it up to turn it. That pivoting front caster is such a worthy investment for a small lawn because you'll get the job done in no time.

The one exceptional feature that this machine has to offer is the combination of gas and lithium-ion battery. It renders such a powerful performance you need to get your lawn in shape.

        Now is the troubles.

The discharge chute fell out kind of easily if there were any kind of unevenness in the terrain. It is because there are just too shallow plastic tabs that are holding it in.

Also, when you're going on a slope, gravity is pulling the front of the unit down, and you have to fight it.

        Pros
        • Ample power

        • Easy to control the self propel speed

        • Cut tall grass smoothly

        Cons
        • A bit noisy

        • Hassle assembly

My first start with this mower was sort of an exceptional experience. It took less than 20 minutes for me to finish mowing my granddad's large yard compared to his old-schooled model.

If you're into your yard, you'll like the blade style and the high back that creates a lot of lift. It'll stand your grass up real tall and help with strike to strike.

The machine comes with 6-horse power engine. It cuts through high grass without getting too sluggish. I remember whacking 3-inch high grass using this machine at the lowest engine speed.

But to ensure better and more precise cuts, I recommend using with a grass catcher to pick up small pieces of grass. It leaves the lawn behind with a neat, fresh, and pretty face.

Assembling this mower could have been a bad idea for me but I got my brother to help. So, I passed it but reckoned the process was not that challenging. And thank God I didn't have that blade hitting the deck.

The first fireup was brilliant. And after three years of having it, I still have a machine that sparks up instantly with a bit of smoke due to sitting for so long. But it definitely works its duty.

How To Choose The Best Electric Start Gas Lawn Mower?

I know. A lawnmower looks so particular and confusing to many people. So, how could I pick out the right one for myself? Well, just make sure you pass these criteria.

        Engine Size

Typically, engine size ranges from 140cc to 190cc. Of course, the bigger the motor you get, the better it's going to cut through wet and tall grass. But it's also adding costs to your price.

Keep in mind that electric plug-in and battery-operated models are now available. These are nice for quarter-acre and less yards. It's one less engine to maintain.

        Type of Self-Propelled

The self-propelled engine breaks down into two categories: either hydrostatic or transmission style.

Each option is good, but it is the yard size you need to consider. Typically, self-propelled is ideal for medium-size yards.

        Type of Drive

You can have rear-wheel, all-wheel, or front-wheel drive.

If you have a hilly yard, rear wheel is more appropriate. Front-wheel drive is easier for pivoting. The option of an all-wheel drive is more suitable for flat terrain.

        Wheel Size

You can get a mower with larger rear wheels if you have a yard with a lot of bumps in it. It'll be a lot smoother.

Most mowers come with the standard same size wheels front and back. This size suits most general-purpose needs.

        Deck

As you look at the deck of the mower, you get three options. Steel, plastic, or composite. Steel is the standard option but over time, this deck is going to rust out on you. That may cause you to either buy a new mower or replace the deck for an expensive cost.

Plastic is nice because it makes a light mower especially in case of electric mowers. As there is no gas involved, you can actually hang the mower to store.

Composite deck increases your cost but you will not see the deck rust out over time. This type of deck is much sturdier and lighter than the steel one.

        Features

A mower that comes with a mulching bagging and discharging features has a lot of advantages.

For example, if you want to bag your lawn to keep the grass from piling up and becoming dead underneath, you need to mulch the lawn to put nutrients back into the grass.

At the end of the day when you want to put the mower away, you might want a washout feature on your deck.

This is convenient because it allows you to hook up a standard garden hose to your deck and rinse the deck out for yourself. It'll prevent rusting, the buildup of excess grass.

        FAQs

What does a ready start mower mean?

Ready Start is a patented technology owned by Briggs and Stratton. It offers instant start to the engine with only two pulls. Moreover, Ready Start engines require no oil change, making it simpler for amateur users. You only need to check the oil level and fill the tank.

How does an electric start lawn mower work?

How long does an electric start mower last?

I have an electric mower that has been there for 10 years with average maintenance after every use. Of course, it doesn't work as it did before due to the wear of the engine. Since the 4th year, the machine started to generate noise and that grows louder with time.

For a cordless mower, the battery's life only lasts about 5 years. However, it doesn't affect the unit as a whole. You can still purchase batteries of the correlative brand and keep using the mower for more years.

        Do electric lawnmowers need oil?

The answer is no. The motor of electric lawnmowers doesn't require lubrication as they do on gas ones. It also doesn't need an air filter, spark plugs, pull cord, or gasoline to operate.

What you want to care about the electric start mower is the ventilation system. If obstacles get clogged in the air vent, they can burst the engine. You can keep the airway clean using cloth to wipe dust and remove debris.

Why is my electric start mower not working?

There are many reasons, but it's probably coming from the following issues:

        • Power supply: Check the outlet. If it runs on battery, check if it's fully charged

        • Tripped breakers

        • Blown fuses

        • Clogged blades

        • Activated Thermal Cut-Out

        • Full clipping bag

        • False on/off trigger

        Conclusion

It's such a breeze shaping the lawn with the best electric start gas lawnmowers.

Going through a number of models, the one universal truth I found is right in the pleasure of looking at my handsome yard precisely cut. That's what I've got with 3 options of mowers I've reviewed. I hope you'll find the same happiness.
