This thermometer displays temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit. There is a button that allows you to toggle between the two metrics. You can also review the history of temp on the screen. The humidity levels are shown in percent. In the lower section is the indication of the outdoor sensor.
What’s most important is the data shown is quite accurate. I actually waited for a week to determine the accuracy of this gadget. It’ll display up to 4 channels. The default one is set with the provided sensor, but you can buy additional sensors to pair with this device.
It comes with an outdoor component powered on rechargeable batteries. They supply a USB cable for recharging.
The unique thing about this particular meter is the touch screen. You can turn on the screen light from here for better visibility in 10 minutes.
With the built-in magnet on the back, you can just hang it on your refrigerator, which I think, is a very convenient plus.

This meter is quite large. It requires no setup or buttons to operate. All you do is mounting it on a wall and see how it works.
I actually taught my kids to read the temperature on this unit. Also, I got one for my parents, who are low-tech people. They hang it near the entrance to check the temp every time they go outside.

Best for A Shadier Location: AcuRite 00424CA Digital Thermometer with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature
Monitor in low temperature
Sensor reads every 30 seconds
Integrated clock
Easy to install
No backlight
Need to get close to read
Love this meter because it has a clock in there. You know everything is better with a clock.
I got this unit when getting ready for a big chill storm coming through the region. This thing can track temp down to negative 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
It’s super easy to set up. You just need to install the double battery in the outside sensor and 2 AAA batteries in the meter. One important thing is when you work on an outside environment anywhere under 4 degrees, you’ll need to switch to lithium batteries. Because the other batteries will die almost instantly.
The sensor works especially well in a cold environment, thus making it functional in shadier locations. It has a LED light to show you that the batteries are still good.
One thing to notice about the wireless sensor is it works on the signal strength of 433 Megahertz. On average, it takes you about 50 meters or 165 ft depending on your building materials. If you live in a subterranean house or a cinderblock, it might be less than regular wood construction.

Want to avoid the hassle of installation? This AcuRite is just what you need.
It comes with two parts. One is the temperature indicator; the other is the sensor. Just basic units to show you the indoor and outdoor temperature.
What makes these devices easy to set up is the design to sit on up like an alarm clock. You can place it anywhere that fits your eyes.
This thermometer features a precise thermistor that can measure temp as low as -40 degrees. The number updates every 60 seconds from up to 100 ft.
Though the device is compact, the displayed numbers are big enough to read without getting close.
However, the only thing I don’t appreciate about this meter is it doesn’t support Centigrade. If you are more familiar with Fahrenheit, it’s a worth buying unit.
Also, at low temperature, the device needs lithium batteries to operate.

The second impression is the touchscreen on the HD display. On top, it can show multiple channels of temperature if you connect with more than one sensor.
You can also check the humidity as well as weather forecast through the change of pressure. It can tell whether it’s sunny, cloudy, rainy, storm, or snow.
The backlight can also change to your liking. You can set it up at light, dark, or off. The gadget looks quite like a futuristic item that attracts attention from any guest that comes to my home.

How To Choose The Most Accurate Outdoor Thermometer?
Now, even you’re hungry for a new thermometer, don’t rush to buy one. You need to know what criteria you should look at to obtain the most appropriate meter. I’m telling you now.
How Easy Is It to Read?
Sometimes, it’s frustrating to skip a moment and walk to check the current temperature. So, I always prefer devices with large numbers. However, you should know that a large display screen is overpowering.
A smaller screen doesn’t mean you can’t see anything. A thermometer in your bedroom may not necessarily come with a large screen. If you buy the meter for someone with seeing ability, a bigger screen is better.
How Far Can The Remote Sensor Reach?
You want to care how far you can position the indoor part away from the outdoor sensor so that it can transmit correctly. Some models can be placed up to more than 400 feet off each other. But keep in mind that solid wall and wireless signals can affect the range.
Also, pay attention to the period the sensor transfers data. Ideally, every 30 seconds is best. You should try to place the meter in different positions to determine the best one for the range.
What Unit Is It Show?
I was more familiar with Celcius, but the meter I bought was displaying in Fahrenheit. There was no switch to C, so I had to learn how to read F-degree. It was not real pain but a bit hassle. So, you should be careful reading the review to see if the device shows in the unit you know.
It’s also a plus to have a dual-unit reading thermometer. You can set the outdoor meter to Celcius during the indoor to Fahrenheit, vice versa. That way, you can learn how to read in both units. It will come in handy when you travel to another country.
Features
Some high-end thermometers have a touchscreen, which is a nice feature to have. But it may consume batteries faster. The weather forecast is also great to have. It uses air pressure to predict climate change in the next 24 hours. You can rely on that feature to plan ahead of your day.
Additionally, there are features like reading wind speed and direction. If you are a sailer, consider having those readings on the meter.
Which Brands Make The Most Accurate Outdoor Thermometer?
AcuRite
AcuRite is my favorite weather monitor brand. It is a family-owned business founded in 1943. The company was one of the most reputable brands of quartz clocks in 1987, and now they are famous for the most reliable weather products. AcuRite stands out for their advanced and up-to-date technology, ultimately serving the need to check the weather and beyond.
ThermoPro
ThermoPro specifies themselves in manufacturing thermometers with a professional end. The brand owns the passion and innovation that guarantee only satisfaction. With a number of quality thermometers in the collection, ThermoPro is there to serve a wide range of demand and customer’s interests.
FAQs
Where is the best place to hang an outdoor thermometer?
It’s best not to place the device in direct sunlight. You should find or provide shade for the meter and place it ideally 6 feet above the air. The area should have sufficient airflow and be away from rain, ice, and snow.
How do you calibrate an outdoor thermometer?
To calibrate an outdoor thermometer, you can make an ice bath using a cup, crushed ice, and cold water. Filling the cup to the top with ice to achieve a stable temperature. Note that if you use cubeb ice, it may have higher temperature readings.
Slowly add cold water until the water line is about half an inch below the surface of the ice. Don’t add water to float the ice. With much water, the freezing point will not be achieved. If the ice starts to float, pour out some water.
Let the ice bath sit for about two minutes, allowing the temperature to stabilize. Place the probe of the thermometer in the middle of the ice bath. Stir the unit gently in the middle of the cup for 15 seconds while making the probe tip submerged. Make sure it won’t touch the sides or the bottom of the cup. Locate, press, and hold the Cal button for two seconds, then release when the word Cal appears flashing on display.
When it’s done with calibrating, the screen should now read 32 degrees Fahrenheit or zero Celsius. Note that it can be slightly above or below this reading, depending on the accuracy of the unit.
How does outdoor thermometer work?
Conventionally, an outdoor thermometer consists of a glass tube filled with mercury. This liquid will rise according to the temperature.
Digital thermometers, on the other hand, is equipped with a small computing mechanism and a resistor. The sensor in it catches the change in temperature and indicates a digital readout in degrees.
How long does it take a thermometer to stabilize?
The answer relies on the thermal conductivity, the thermal mass of the material, and the probe. For a glass thermometer, it takes around 2 minutes on the average. A metal thermocouple thermometer takes a bit longer, about 3 minutes.
Conclusion
I really don’t know how many thermometers I have used. But each one left me a certain impression of its best. That’s how I’m able to select the most accurate outdoor thermometer and pile this list. I hope you have found a meter for yourself. Don’t forget to let me know and drops comments if you have any questions. Ciao!
