In This Episode of the Vegetable Gardening Show
In this episode of the Vegetable Gardening show, Mike chats with garden expert and guru, Jennifer McGuinness. Jen fills us in on the monarch butterfly, their migration path, things people do that are detrimental to this important pollinator, and how to raise and care for them yourselves.
From there, she'll fill us in on the groundhogs that were wreaking havoc on her gardens, the wide variety methods she used to deter them, and which one finally worked for her in her area.
Jen will also tell us why she loves flowers as her garden passion and how a recent trip to the California Veggies Trials has her excited about new varieties that are coming out next gardening season.
About this week's guest on the Vegetable Gardening Show, Jennifer McGuinness
Professionally I am a freelance writer and photographer. You can find my photography at McGuinnessPhoto.com. I have editorial experience from various communications roles, and I'm currently back in school to become a teacher. I have been a member of the Garden Writers Association since 2015.
In 2016, I was featured on three episodes of the Still Growing podcast hosted by Jennifer Ebeling. The first episode included my personal gardening experiences, and I was delighted to be invited back to participate in the Spring Bulb Party. In 2014,
I caught the gardening bug early in my life! Instead of playing soccer on grass fields as a child, I was busy poking marigold and sunflower seeds in the ground. In 2009, my husband and I purchased our first home where I immediately began tearing up the expansive green lawn in favor of flowers and vegetables. And trees. And more flowers. The neighbors originally thought I was crazy, but now dog-walkers and joggers stop to compliment and talk plants while I'm outside. It's now the largest front garden on the block – and it comes with a lot of work to maintain. (I do not hire a lawn crew or landscapers to do the work for me.)
