The best way to grow herbs is to simply do it. Of course I’ll go into more detail in a moment on exact methods and techniques, but if you are looking for the best way to grow herbs, the best way, is to get started.

Herbs come in many shapes, sizes, flavors and varieties. You can grow healing herbs, you can grow medicinal herbs, and of course you can grow cooking herbs, which is just a fancy way of saying herbs for your favorite recipes. Regardless of why you are growing herbs you will see just how much fun and easy they are to grow.

One of the greatest things about growing herbs is that you can grow herbs indoors and of course you can grow herbs outdoors, you can grow herbs in pots, you can grow herbs in an apartment and, you can easily grow herbs from seeds. Which is why I always recommend seeds first. I’ll show you in a moment how easy it is, and when you grow herbs from seeds, you will save yourself a lot of money.

You will need to know a few things first if you want to grow herbs indoors. To start, you need to find a south facing window, with a sill. For this example, we are going to cover how to grow herbs in pots and indoors. To grow herbs indoors you will need a window sill, or similar location, so that your herbs receive at least 4 hours of natural sunlight.

Now that you have the location, you want an herb pot that is at least four inches in diameter. Sure, you can get away with a smaller diameter, but I recommend four inches because it is big enough to grow herbs fairly well and does not take up all that much space.

With your location and pot taken care of, the final step is soil. I highly recommend a good organic potting soil. The price of organic potting soil has come way down, comparable to non-organic, and since we are talking about how to grow herbs from seeds, you want to start off right, right? Go organic with your soil. Your herbs will taste better.

Here is the easiest part of growing herbs from seeds. All you have to do now is sprinkle your herb seeds on top of the soil, give a light watering, then add some more potting soil on top of the seeds. Not too much soil. Just enough to cover the seeds. Place your pot of herb seeds on your window sill and you are done.

Depending on which herb, or herbs, you decided to grow, you should see them sprout in seven to ten days. Some of the herbs I like to grow are basil, thyme, parsley, chives, oregano, dill and cilantro. There are literally thousands of herbs to choose from. You are bound to find something that you like.

Now get out there and start growing your own herbs.

Happy gardening!
