It was one heck of a busy spring/summer for me. So busy that my blog posts, articles, podcasts and videos had to take a back seat so I could simply get things done. No matter how busy I was, I still made time for my garden.

This year I grew a lot of tomatoes. Thirteen different varieties to be exact. Some I had only a single plant, while others I grew two to four of. While peppers, cucumbers, beans and zucchini made up some other types of veggies I grew, it was the tomatoes that reigned supreme this year.

So as you can imagine, with the season over, and the tomato crop being so abundant, I am a little bummed that it came to an end as fast as it started. An end to summer crops anyhow. Fall is well underway.

Here in zone 7a, New Jersey, this time of the year is perfect for carrots, leafy greens, and celery (to name a few items). The cooler temperatures do not bother these types of veggies, and in fact they thrive, since the hotter summer temperatures would make them wilt away and die off.

If you live in cooler temperatures like I do, and do not have your garden going for the fall/winter time, do not despair. Incorporate a cold frame to get your seeds going and have some fresh veggies all winter long. Also, don’t forget about growing some herbs indoors on a window sill this winter. Chives are a great choice, along with dill and parsley. They might produce smaller plants, but fresh herbs in the winter time will really help spice up those hot soups.

Comment below and let me know what you will be growing in your fall/winter garden this year.

Happy Gardening!
